Continue to read other writer’s work and give constructive, honest and hopefully helpful comments and suggestions.

Watch familiar films to analyze what makes them favorites.

Listen to real people’s speech patterns, expressions, and make mental notes on what makes ‘convincingly realistic dialogue’ to avoid ridiculously phony-sounding screenplay lines.

Try not to obsess over work that has been submitted and not responded to yet. Laugh at yourself as much as you can stand…it’s free endorphins if nothing else.

Goals I have set for the month of May include:

1. Rewrite my short film screenplay that involves deeper characters.

2. Practice pitching the screenplay to friends.

3. Read my writer’s blog list daily.

4. Determine what competition(s) I am entering, and enter if time allows.

Yes, this month I plan to join the ranks of those anonymous superheros, the working screenwriters, who stand united by the secret code: To create stories which expand the boundaries of suspended disbelief, demonstrate the rules of cool behavior, and by so-doing, enforce the fabric of society and prevent humanity from unraveling into chaos.

Plus, I’d just like to add, that when I feel abandoned in a Doctor’s waiting room, I like to think, it’s because something went horribly wrong with the person called-in before me, and the staff is trying to cover it up.
