Last month, I launched the first in my 2019 Jewish Bucket List series for the Jewish Journal. Read what happened when I went Israeli Folk Dancing … and be sure to watch the video.

Sandra de Helen was among the local authors honored by the San Diego Public Library. Her book, Desire Returns for a Visit, will remain on display at the downtown branch throughout February, and online until next year. Her essay on aging was part of a production in Portland, Oregon called The Art of Aging. Many Hats Collaboration assembled a piece from essays and included it in a full production with music and a separate play called The Undertaking.  Her full-length play, Blue Roses, was published by Madwomen in the Attic.

Mineral School, an artists residency near Mt. Rainier in Washington state, is taking applications through February 15, 2019. They offer two-week residencies, as well as a fully-funded one-week residency session in September 2019 for parents. They’re also debuting a two-week screenwriting residency this May in conjunction with the Rainier Independent Film Festival. All together, they have 10 fellowships this year. Applications are here. The Save the Cat!® screenplay competition is open to writers regardless of professional status or experience. Submissions are open through March 15, 2019, and will be judged by a panel of professional “cats” – experienced judges and readers who define winning screenplays through Save the Cat! story methodology. Every single participant will receive meaningful feedback grounded in structure and marketability. Applications must include an original feature film screenplay between 70 and 130 pages. The Tahoma Literary Review is accepting narrative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry submissions. Full guidelines are here. They currently pay between $30 and $100.
