Pastry chef, educator, and food-focused traveler Susie Norris has a new book out – A Baker’s Passport: Recipes for Breads, Savory Pies, Vegetarian Dishes, Tarts, Cakes and Cookie Classics. Looks delicious!

A shift from from fiction to memoir inspired author Merrill Feitell to explore the possibilities of multimedia narrative. Her new essay on text, image, and creative process is now online at Los Angeles Review of Books.

Carolyn Howard-Johnson is celebrating the release of the third edition of The Frugal Book Promoter: How to get nearly free publicity on your own or partnering with your publisher. A former publicist, journalist, and retailer, Carolyn shares her professional experience as well as practical tips gleaned from the successes of her own book campaigns.

Nita Sweeney, author of the memoir, Depression Hates a Moving Target, will be the featured guest on Shinzen Young’s Life Practice Program on September 4 at 11am ET. She’ll also be speaking in Upper Arlington, OH, on September 15 on “Publishing What a Ride!” and doing a book talk on September 25 in Northwest Columbus on “Exercise and Mental Health” in northwest Columbus. The Women’s National Book Association is a 100+ year old venerated organization of women and men across the broad spectrum of writing and publishing. They honor and celebrate woman authors and diverse writers with their 2019 Bay Area WNBA Writer’s Contest, running through October 31st, 2019. Genres include: Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry. Fiction and Nonfiction should be 500-2500 words. Poetry should be no more than 40 lines. Participants may submit up to three pieces. Get fees/details/prize info, and enter here.

The Tahoma Literary Review is accepting narrative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry submissions. Full guidelines are here. They currently pay between $30 and $100.

Forensic specialist Jennifer Dornbush will walk you through the foundational principles of crafting a crime drama/thriller, “Hitchcock Whisperer” Jeffrey Michael Bays will explore the basic steps to planting suspense into your film, and HBO/Showtime writer William C.
