Bringing community to writers throughout the world

About Debra

Write On! is led by Debra Eckerling, who has been a professional writer for more than 10 years. She has an expertise in corporate communications, feature articles, and public speaking. Eight years ago, she founded Write On!, a live – and now online – gathering of writers of all abilities, genres, and specialties. Debra offers writers a unique opportunity to network and create community, local and worldwide, while helping them become more productive and achieve their goals.

Debra’s experience writing and editing copy for small and large companies include her specialties: newsletters, corporate profiles, and web content. She has also freelanced for local, national, and trade publications, as well as online, with a focus in the areas of entertainment, lifestyle, and business. Venues include Script magazine, StoryLink, iMedia Connection, and The Jewish Journal.

A Chicago native, Debra felt a passion for writing ever since childhood. “People don’t choose to be writers,” she believes. “Writing chooses you.”

Prior to moving to California, she served as Community Events Coordinator at Barnes & Noble and a Production Editor at Publications International, Ltd. Debra received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of WisconsinMadison, where she was an award-winning public speaker on the nationally ranked Forensics team. These days, she puts her public speaking chops to good use, facilitating panels at Final Draft’s Scriptwriters Showcase, hosting seminars at The Writers Store, and speaking on writing at various events, including Creative Screenwriting’s Screenwriting Expo. She is also one of the LA hosts for Mediabistro.com’s Networking Parties.

TESTIMONIAL

“I met Debra at a writer’s meeting, it was apparent at the time that Debra was the one person in the room that was going places. She has boundless energy. She can command a room and get her point across whether the group consists of 5 or 35 people. She knows her subject matter whenever she teaches. At her monthly Write On! meetings she challenges everyone to produce their best and accomplish a goal for each meeting. Debra is a genuinely nice and caring person. She has a work ethic we should all aspire towards.”Lisa DeVincent
