Goal-setting season is upon us. Last week, I talked about Goal Setting on Ai Addyson-Zhang Facebook Live Show: Classroom without Walls. If you need help getting your goals together, watch it here. Plus, my first goal-setting workshop for 2018 is a Lunch N Learn at LAX Chamber of Commerce on January 12. Attention all Star Wars fans! Chrysanthe Tan’s epic violin cover of “Battle of the Heroes” from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is now available on iTunes and Spotify.

Petrea Burchard’s books are featured in a pop-up bookstore at Harper Salon, 8259 Melrose in West Hollywood until early January. Harper is sponsoring the pop-up along with The Last Bookstore in downtown LA, to benefit School on Wheels.

Sandra de Helen’s essay “My [Failed] Abortion” received a Pushcart nomination by the publisher of ROAR.

Jennifer Brody’s essay “Let Me IN” is included in From The Stars: Young Adult Sci-fi Anthology, which publishes next week.

Los Angeles author and playwright Lance Johnson’s play “Taming the Male Chauvinist” was selected for inclusion in the 2018 Playwriting Symposium’s 10-Minute Play Festival of the Mid-America Theatre Conference in Milwaukee, WI. MATC runs from March 15 to March 18, 2018Learn more about the conference. Early bird prices go til February 16.

The winners will receive cash prizes and all finalists’ stories will be read on stage by celebrity guests at LitFest Pasadena on May 19-20, 2018. It is free to submit stories. Call for Submissions: Anthology Competition. Theme: “Table for Two.” Whether it’s a first date, worst date, blind date, or special celebration, some of our most memorable meals involve dining with another person. Of the 20 best personal essays chosen by our judges for publication, the top three will respectively receive $200, $150 and $100 and a feature interview. $5 entry fee. Deadline December 10, 2017.

The Epoch Times is inviting submissions of short (500-1,000 words), nonfiction articles that highlight any of the following themes: compassion, redemption, triumph of the human spirit, and life’s surprises. There is no entrance fee. Get more information.

The Tahoma Literary Review is accepting narrative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry submissions. Full guidelines are here. They currently pay between $30 and $100.
