Last week, I launched my new Goal Coaching website: TheDEBMethod.com.Plus, I was a guest on Catherine Basu’s Fit Fifteen Podcast, where we talked about goal setting using The D*E*B Method. Sandra de Helen’s one-act play, “A New Daddy,” will be stage-read Friday, May 4, at 7:30 pm. Venue is Holy Trinity Anglican Church in San Diego. There will be seven short plays, with an intermission. Parking is free; tickets are a $10 donation at the door. Her longer one-act play, “Decoration Day,” was a finalist for production at Theatre Lawrence in Lawrence, Kansas. Sandra received kind words from one of the selection committee members: “Your command of rural Missouri speech patterns, practically a handbook for anyone trying to represent these people Thomas Hart Benton would be pleased! Also, Maggie’s understanding of Helen’s alcoholism is very moving for anyone acquainted with this disease.”
Mahlena-Rae Johnson released her 4th book, Love at a Luau, on May 1. It’s a romance novel about a California-refugee suffering from PTSD who is scared to fall in love with a single dad.
O.C.Writers has linked arms with Giracci Vineyard and Farms to celebrate women authors, artists, musicians and other creatives for Orange County’s first Wine, Women, and Words Festival! The event is May 12, 4 – 7pm.

Terry Whalin will be teaching a workshop and meeting with authors at two upcoming conferences. He’ll be at the Colorado Christian Writers Conference, May 16 – 19 at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, and the Write to Publish Conference, June 13 – 16 at Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. Save the Date: Come north for the 2018 Alaska Writers’ Guild writers and illustrators conference in Anchorage on September 21 and 22, 2018. So far this year’s keynote faculty consists of Rebecca Zanetti and Angela Ackerman. Take a look at the 2017 conference on our web page for an idea of the sessions that will be offered. We’ll be updating the web page with the 2018 schedule soon!

POPS the Club, a nonprofit that creates, trains and supports clubs in high schools for students whose lives have been impacted by incarceration and deportation now serves nine schools in the L.A. area, as well as schools in Pennsylvania, Northern California, and Minnesota.
