The Women’s National Book Association is a 100+ year old venerated organization of women and men across the broad spectrum of writing and publishing. They honor and celebrate woman authors and diverse writers with their 2019 Bay Area WNBA Writer’s Contest, running through October 31st, 2019. Genres include: Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry. Fiction and Nonfiction should be 500-2500 words. Poetry should be no more than 40 lines. Participants may submit up to three pieces. Get fees/details/prize info, and enter here.

The Tahoma Literary Review is accepting narrative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry submissions. Full guidelines are here. They currently pay between $30 and $100.

October 2: We are moving the LA hangouts to the evening. The October LA Hangout at Literati Cafe, 12081 Wilshire Blvd, in West LA is from 6:30pm – 8pm. RSVP on Facebook. Please remember, Literati Cafe requests each attendee/patron purchase at least a drink. October 9: The film The Need To Grow, fresh off from winning awards at Sundance, will be premiered at the Landmark Theater, 10850 Pico, in Los Angeles at 7pm. The film brings awareness that we are running out of time to find solutions to feed our population in the very near future. And it features long-time Write On member David King of The Learning Garden.

October 12: Lummox Press and Lummox # 8 Group Reading at Beyond Baroque in Los Angeles at 4pm.
