October 29 – 31: Film Independent’s 6th Annual Filmmaker Forum at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. Covering production, distribution, documentary, and emerging media, the 2010 Filmmaker Forum provides case studies and presentations on some of today’s most interesting new works as well as thought-provoking discussions, and networking sessions. October 29 & 30: Chicagoans, Facets’ second annual Fright School, where they show a horror film every Friday and Saturday at midnight in October, wraps up this weekend. Each film will be introduced by a staff member who will hang around into the wee hours for a Q&A. Sunday, October 31: Deadline for the October Write On! Tweeting Contest: Describe your blog in 140 characters or less. Business manager and social media enthusiast Rebecca Quinn will choose the winners. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. November 1 – 30: is National Novel Writing Month. Are you planning to write a novel in a month? Jeanne Veillette Bowerman reviewed the NaNoWriMo website last week. Also in November: Attention Poets! NaNoWriMo not your thing? Writer’s Digest is again offering the November PAD Chapbook Challenge. Write a poem-a-day throughout the month of November, and then put together a chapbook and submit by January 5, 2011. Come join the fun, even if you don’t choose to write to all 30 prompts.
