Another great writers group tonight in Santa Monica! We had novelists, screenwriters, fiction, non-fiction, poets, and artists … and a bunch of new people. Welcome Gabriel, Danielle, Jane, Jill, and Shelley!
There were some good conversations about tone and style; and how a person’s experience and frame-of-reference are what makes a writer stand out. Plus, with the Query Contest—for Books in May and Screenplay in June—we went over what makes for a good query: engaging opening, pitch the story, and pitch yourself. We also discussed the importance of a bio and using a blog as a portfolio for a writers work.

So sorry I missed it!! I am still working!! LOL :0)
It was my first time and I loved it! Thanks Debra for being a dynamo and such a great meeting wrangler. You kept it on point, yet completely enjoyable. Your mini- critique of my pages was a huge help to me. I was also very impressed by the level of writing and fun in this group. Only wish I could bring my mom (also a cool mom, like yours, but she lives in NY).
